FOUNDATION
Term 1, 2021 for Foundation has certainly been a busy introduction to school life. The students have settled in so well and are making the staff at Sirius College proud.
The Foundation students have been introduced to their Year 6 buddy and are being supported in their reading every Thursday and Friday mornings with their buddy reading with and to them. What a great way to introduce our new additions to the leaders of the school!
Maths
This term’s Maths lessons have been all about Number. The students have been exploring number 0-10 in counting, collections and recognition of these numbers. We begin each Maths lesson with number practice and revision, this can be in the form of a game, flashcards or singing with counting. We even finished the term with ordinal numbers. Who was 1st, 2nd and 3rd to finish?
Integrated Studies
This is new to many Foundation students in the form of a desktop computer. We have been learning about the parts of a computer and how to log on and off the computer. Please allow your child to continue this new skill at home when completing their weekly Reading Eggs and Mathletics tasks. Have them try to type and click on the letters/numbers needed to enter their username and password. Thanks.
Developmental Play
Developmental Play is a structured play setting that occurs in our classroom every Friday afternoon. The students build on their fine motor skills (the ability to use their fingers) with different tasks such as: beading, tweezers, playdough, finger puppets and more. They explore creative play in construction, the home corner/ kitchen and dress ups.
Visual Arts
This term the Foundation students have been exploring Primary and Secondary Colours. They have learnt that the 3 primary colours:- red, blue and yellow can’t be mixed with any other colour to create however if you mix 2 primary colours together you will get a secondary colour:- orange, purple and green. Can you remember what primary colours make what secondary colours?
Homework Update
Reading Eggs and Mathletics set tasks will now be set on Friday through to the following Friday. This will now align with the other classes in the school.
There will be a new addition to the Homework for Foundation students. Two new sounds are being introduced a week as part of the new synthetic phonics program ‘Read, Write Inc’. To fit this into the curriculum, the “Sounds Right, Read Write” textbook will be sent home on a Monday and collected on a Friday every week. Note: only two pages of the introduced sounds from that week will be expected to be completed during this time. Thank you for your continued support in this area.
BraveHearts Incursion
This term, the Foundation, Year 1 and Year 2 students took part in an incursion about personal safety. The students joined in singing and putting actions to songs about safe and unsafe feelings. They were taught about what that feels like and who to talk to if you feel unsafe.
